Synthesis and characterization of benzodioxinone mono-telechelics and their use in block copolymerization
(Turkish Journal of Chemistry, 2021-08-27) Celik, Cumali
Poly (methyl methacrylate)(PMMA) and poly (ethylene glycol) methyl ether (mPEG)-based monotelechelics were quantitatively prepared by copper (I)-catalyzed azide/alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) click reactions using azido-terminated polymers and alkyne functional benzodioxinones. The monotelechelic containing dimethyl moities (2, 2-dimethyl-5-(prop-2-yn-1-yloxy)-4H-benzo [d][1, 3] dioxin-4-one) was heat-sensitive, whereas the monotelechelic containing diphenyl moieties (2, 2-diphenyl-5-(prop-2-yn-1-yloxy)-4H-benzo [d][1, 3] dioxin-4-one) was UV light sensitive. Based on the FT-IR, 1 H-NMR, and GPC investigations, the CuAAC click reactions enable the quantitative syntheses of monotelechelics under mild conditions. Moreover, the photosensitive mPEG-based monotelechelic was further utilized for the block copolymer synthesis upon UV-light irradiation. The photoinduced acylation of mPEG monotelechelic consist of (2, 2-diphenyl-5-(prop-2-yn-1-yloxy)-4H-benzo [d][1, 3] dioxin-4-one) in the presence of hydroxy-terminated poly (epsilon caprolactone) enabled the successful block copolymer formation.

Emulsion templated polymer monoliths containing cellulose nanocrystals: Synthesis and adsorption properties
(journal of applied polymer science, 2022-03-15) Ali Eslek, Hande Mert, Hilal Mert Burcu KEKEVİ,
Cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) loaded hierarchical macroporous polymer monoliths were synthesized through high internal phase emulsion (HIPE) templating. For this purpose, unmodified CNCs were used as nanofiller in various amounts during HIPE preparation. The effect of CNCs loading on the hierarchical pore structure and mechanical properties was investigated. It was demonstrated that mechanical strength was significantly improved by CNCs loading. In order to reveal an application field, adsorptive property of resulting monoliths was investigated against Nile blue dye. The results showed that the maximum adsorption capacity of cationic Nile blue was 54% for the neat monolith, while it was 70% for the monolith prepared by 9 wt% CNCs loading. Meanwhile, the kinetic evaluation of the experimental adsorption data revealed that the adsorption follows pseudo-second-order kinetic model and it is consistent with Freundlich isotherm.

Synthesis of polyHIPEs through high internal phase emulsions of β-myrcene
(colloid and polymer science, 2020-08-20) Mert, Emine Hilal, Burcu Kekevi
PolyHIPEs are an important class of porous polymers with well-defined hierarchical porosity and tunable morphology. However, the insufficient mechanical properties arise due to high volume of voids bringing difficulties in applications. In this study, polyHIPEs with tailored morphological and mechanical properties were prepared by using a monoterpene for the first time. In this respect, copolymerization of β-myrcene with several comonomers within water-in-oil (w/o) high internal phase emulsions (HIPEs) has been extensively investigated. Accordingly, combining β-myrcene and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) in polyHIPE structure was demonstrated as a successful approach for tailoring the morphology, as well as the mechanical strength. PolyHIPEs with cavities between 1.09 and 3.55 μm were obtained by changing the ratio of β-myrcene in the continuous phase of HIPEs. Moreover, resulting polyHIPEs have found to have improved mechanical strength. The highest compressive modulus achieved for the obtained monoliths was determined to be 38.8 MPa

Synthesis of β-myrcene-based macroporous nanocomposite foams: Altering the morphological and mechanical properties by using organo-modified nanoclay
(journal of applied polymer science, 2021-03-20) Mert, Emine Hilal, Burcu Kekevi
Organo-modified nanoclay incorporated high internal phase emulsions (HIPEs)were successfully used for the preparation of macroporous nanocomposite foams.Due to the aim of obtaining mechanicallyimproved foams, HIPEs were preparedby using a monomer mixture composed ofβ-myrcene and ethylene glycoldimethacrylate. Accordingly, two groups of macroporous nanocomposite foamswere synthesized depending on the nanoclay type. The morphological analysisdemonstrated that the pore openness of the resulting nanocomposites were signifi-cantly improved due to the decrease in the average cavity size and increase in theinterconnected poresize. In terms of mechanical properties, it was found that fill-ing 1 wt% of nanoclay which is surface modified by hydrogenated tallow lead to a33% of increment in the compression modulus, as compared to the neat foam. However, loading 5 wt% of nanoclay having octadecylamine andaminopropyltriethoxysilane surface groups caused only 11% of increment in thecompression modulus, as compared to the neat foam

Development of terpene based sorbents via emulsion templating: Synthesis and swelling behavior
(Reactive and Functional Polymers, 2021-07) Kekevi, Burcu, Emine Hilal Mert
Polymeric sorbent materials exhibiting excellent swelling capacity were developed using high internal phase emulsion (HIPE) templating approach. Precursor HIPEs were prepared by using continuous phases that composed of mixtures of β-myrcene (monomer) and 1,3-butanediol dimethacrylate (crosslinker). The influence of β-myrcene concentration on the emulsion stability and crosslinking was investigated. Swelling behaviors of resulting polyHIPEs in different solvents were studied. It was found that the maximum swelling capacities were reached 713%, 667% and 310% in benzene, toluene and hexane, respectively.

Preparation of hypercrosslinked PolyHIPEs by using a bio-derived monomer
(European Polymer Journal, 2021-06-05) Kekevi, Burcu, Emine Hilal Mert
The interest on adapting bio-derived species to polymer synthesis has been increased in the last decade. Terpenes that can be obtained by extracting from the essential oils of tree sap and citrus fruit have an important place on this subject. In this respect, β-myrcene, which is a promising linear conjugated diene, is attracting the interest of researchers. However, the free radical copolymerization of β-myrcene is difficult mainly because of concurrent Diels-Alder reactions with electron-deficient vinyl monomers via their s-cis forms. Here, we developed polyHIPEs from the high internal phase emulsions (HIPEs) of β-myrcene. For this purpose, HIPEs were prepared by using either 50 or 40 vol% of β-myrcene in the continuous phase. Meanwhile, the influence of 4-vinylbenzyl chloride (VBC), divinylbenzene (DVB), and 1,3-butanedioldiacrylate (BDDA) on the copolymerization crosslinking of β-myrcene within precursor HIPEs was explored. For this purpose, HIPEs were prepared by altering the amount of comonomers between 0 and 60 vol% of the total monomer composition. The resulting HIPEs showed excellent stability. However, crosslinking could not be achieved in all cases, due to the altered monomer composition. On the other hand, crosslinked polyHIPEs were hypercrosslinked with Friedel-Crafts alkylation method. Characterization of the resulting materials showed the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller specific surface area (δBET) of the polyHIPEs was increased from 2.25 m2 g−1 to 60.18 m2 g−1 by hypercrosslinking.

Production of Fritillaria imperialis L. Bulbs Using Different Methods and Monitoring the Development of Bulb Groups Under Export Size
(Egyptian Journal of Horticulture, 2021-08) Yücel, Gül; Mengüç, Ahmet
This study was carried out in two regions: Küçükdeliller village in Osmangazi district in Bursa province (altitude: 1100 m) and Yalova (altitude: 5 m). In the study, an incubation room (with an average of 20.33°C and 88.2% relative humidity) belonging to Yalova Atatürk Horticultural Central Research Institute and a warehouse with uncontrolled conditions were used. In this study, it was aimed to reproduce Fritillaria imperialis L. by different methods in different regions outside its natural distribution area and to monitor the development course of bulb groups under export size (10/12, 12/14, and 14/16 cm) in these locations. The best result in the reproduction of Fritillaria imperialis L. was obtained from the practice of incubating, cross-cutting application in the Küçükdeliller ecology, and the chipping application after the incubation process in the same ecology. Although there were losses in the number of bulb planted in both regions in the bulb groups under export size, increases in weight and circumference of the bulbs have been found over the years, especially in Küçükdeliller ecology. As a result of the research, it was determined that the ecology of Küçükdeliller is significantly better than the ecology of Yalova regarding the growth of bulb under export size.

(İKSAD Publishing House, 2021-09) Talih Akkaya, Duygu
The Covid-19 virus, which first appeared in Wuhan, China in December 2019 and was defined as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO), affected the whole world and caused the death of many people. In this process, the effect of which is still ongoing and the risk of transmission is very high, mandatory restrictions were made all over the world, most of the businesses were closed for a long time, and curfews were applied in some periods. Therefore, people stayed at home and avoided crowded environments as much as possible, and tried to meet almost all their needs, especially their basic needs, by shopping online. The already widespread internet usage and online shopping rate have increased even more with the effect of staying at home, which has led to the start of the digital struggles of businesses in the global sense. Many internet users are influenced by social media advertisements when making an online purchase decision. Therefore, the Covid-19 pandemic process has led to an increase in social media advertising investments in parallel with the increasing online spendings, and most of the businesses have started to produce effective and creative digital campaigns that are suitable for the process while focusing on advertising investments. Within the context of the study, first of all, a literature review on the Covid-19 pandemic process and social media advertising was made, then examples of successful social media advertising campaigns carried out in this process were examined and the effects of these campaigns in Turkey and in the world were evaluated.
