Abstract
Sketching predetermines the development of the form of the design as well as its functionality. Sketching is a form of communication. Sketching is therefore used to share ideas or thoughts.
For designers, sketching is a tool for reflecting thoughts and solving problems. The sketching process is often linked to scribbling and includes recording thoughts through actions such as writing and scribbling. Sketch drawings include texts and drawings to give ideas to clients and the designer.
The history of the sketch is also connected with the history of the drawing. The sketch may consist of simple, detailed or interconnected layers, and may include purposes such as conveying, researching, thinking and reflecting on a subject. The terms “drawing” and “sketch” have been interchangeable terms in the history of art and design.
In this study, the use of the experimental effect created by the lines in furniture design while the sketch is used in the design is examined. Random lines and designs with the effect of sculpture bring originality in design. As a method, literature review and sample designs related to sketches were examined. As a result, factors such as function, aesthetics, material and user should be considered in furniture design. These sculptural designs and innovative designs also affect the identity of the space.
