Item A Comparative Analysis of Istanbul Fish Market Records Between 1998 and 2001(Ege Üniversitesi Su Ürünleri Fakültesi Dergisi, 2003) Tekinay, Ahmet Adem; Alpaslan, Mustafa; Özen, Özcan; Akyüz, Pınar; Kahyaoğlu, Gülçin Ebru; Güroy, DeryaA total of 86 different fish species were recorded in Istanbul Fish Market between 1998 and 2001. During these years, the highest productions were recorded for european anchovy (Engraulis encrasicholus Linnaeus, 1758), horse mackerel (Trachurus trachurus Linnaeus, 1758), bonito (Sarda sarda Bloch, 1793), bluefish (Pomatomus saltatrix Linnaeus, 1766) and whiting (Merlangius merlangus euxinus Nordmann, 1840). Total production amount of these 5 species was 80.1% of the production for the investigated years. Annual fish production varied between 23825 and 25228 ton from 1998 to 2000, however, the total production of 2001 was recorded as 36771 ton, an increase of 51%. November and October were observed as the highest production months during the fouryear period. In 2001, the highest increase in terms of percentage compared to the previous three years production was observed in bluefish (497%).Item An investigation on some population parametres of European pilchard (Sardina pilchardus Walbaum 1792) in the Dardanelles(2002) Tekinay, Ahmet Adem; Akyüz, Pınar; Güroy, Derya; Kahyaoğlu, Gülçin Ebru; Alpaslan, MustafaIn this study, the lenght-weight relationship, condition factor (CF), gonadosomatic index (GSI) and meat yield of 363 Europen pilchard (Sardina pilchardus Walbaum,1792) sample from Dardanelles were studied between Semtember 2001 and April 2002. The lenght-weight relationship was calculated as W=0.0172L2.68; R2=0.71. Mean condition factor of males and females varied between 0.66-0.87% and 0.68-.0.86%, while mean GSI values were 0.34-4.83% and 0.47-5.95%, respectively. Percentage meat yield of males and females were varied as 64.21-75.56 and 64.20-81.50, respectively.Item Artificial sex reversal of white grouper (Epinephelus aeneus) utilizing aromatase inhibitor (Fadrozole)(Aquaculture Research, 2019-03-20) Evliyaoğlu, Ece; Eroldoğan, Orhan Tufan; Yılmaz, Hatice Asuman; Genç, Münevver Ayçe; Genç, Ercüment; Duncan, Neil; Aktaş, Mevlüt; Güroy, DeryaThe white grouper is a desirable aquaculture species that adapts to captivity, grows well and commands a high market price. However, little is known about reproductive biology or control of sex reversal of this protogynous hermaphrodite. In this study, female white groupers were implanted with one dose of 17α‐methyltestosterone (10 mg/kg body weight [BW], MT) and two doses of aromatase inhibitor, fadrozole (1 and 3 mg/kg BW, FD1 and FD3) once a month for 4 months (April–July). At the start of the study, the fish had gonads full of oocytes compared to the end of the experi‐ment when the control group mature oocytes compared to the experimental groups MT, FD1 and FD3 that exhibited different stages of testicular tissue. Plasma levels of testosterone were significantly highest in the FD3 group and the highest 11 -Ketotestosterone levels were observed in the MT group. Plasma levels of oestradiol (E2) were significantly lower in the FD implanted groups, compared to initial individu‐als and control groups. The use of aromatase inhibitor, FD for sex reversal both gives further insight into the mechanisms controlling sex differentiation and provides an alternative to steroid treatmentItem Balık üretiminden kaynaklanan kirlilik ve çözüm yolları(Ege Üniversitesi Su Ürünleri Fakültesi Dergisi, 2006) Tekinay, Ahmet Adem; Güroy, Derya; Çevik, NazanAquaculture pollution mainly originates from the physical and chemical characteristics of feed and the applied feeding management. The production of fish feed by using the extruder technology prevents the dust and broken particles formation by enhancing the water stability of feed. Feed loss is prevented by controlling the sinking rates of feed. By using the appropriate mechanical equipment during feed production, the feed density can be adjusted according to the freshwater and marine environment. Instead of oil spraying, the use of vacuum coating for oil addition of feed prevents oil leakage into the aquatic environment. The choice of highly digestible feed ingredients with low cellulose content and the application of heat treatment (85 – 90 °C) for an appropriate period of time to feed in the preconditioner decreases fecal waste production by increasing carbohydrate digestibility. The balancing of the Nitrogen: Phosphorus and Protein: Energy ratios in the feed formulations provide the decreasing of the amount of dissolved ammonium, and phosphorus released to the environment. The pollution, due to fish feeding, may be also minimized through developing feeding tables according to the Thermal Growth Coefficient (TGC) of fish based on the characteristics of the fish farmsItem Bezelye protein konsantresinin granyöz (Argyrosomus regius) balıklarında büyüme performansı biyolojik parametreler vücut kompozisyonu ve amonyak boşaltımı üzerine etkileri.(Ege Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, 2017) Güroy, Derya; Mantoğlu, Serhan; Karadal, OnurUsing of alternative plant/animal based (except fish meal) raw materials is one of the most important application for decreasing feed cost in finfish feeds. Meagre which is demanded from many countries because of its efficient meat quality and flovur and showed rapid growth under culture conditions is a potential species. A nutrition trial with meagre, Argyrosomus regius was undertaken to evaluate the effect of replacing dietary fishmeal (FM) protein with pea protein concentrate (PPC). A diet with FM as the main protein source was used for the control diet (FM). Four experimental diets were formulated to progressively replace 15% (PPC15), 30% (PPC30), 45% (PPC45) and 60% (PPC60) of FM protein. The study was carried out in 450-L fiberglass tanks connected to a closed recirculation system. Eighteen fish per tank were randomly distributed into 15 tanks with three replicates. The diets were tested in triplicate for 12 weeks. The specific growth rate (SGR) of fish fed diet PPC15 were not significantly different compared to fish fed the FM diet (P>0.05). Meagre fed FM, PPC15 and PPC30 had significantly lower FCR compared with fish fed PPC45 and PPC60 (P<0.05). Total ammonia-nitrogen (TAN) excretion increased with elevated dietary PPC inclusion. In conclusion, using 15% of pea protein concentrate in meagre feeds has been recommended.Item Çanakkale Balık Halinde pazarlanan su ürünleri ve Çanakkale Bölgesi üretim miktarlarının karşılaştırılması.(Ege Üniversitesi Su Ürünleri Fakültesi Dergisi, 2002) Tekinay, Ahmet Adem; Alpaslan, Mustafa; Özen, Özcan; Akyüz, Pınar; Güroy, DeryaA comparison between the records of Çanakkale Fish Market and fisheries production of Çanakkale Region from 1996 to 2001. In this study, Çanakkale Fish Market records and Çanakkale fisheries production data obtained from Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Province Directorate of Çanakkale were investigated from 1996 to 2001. The highest market records (432.0 ton) and fisheries productions (22 050.6 ton) were observed in 2001. For the years investigated, the sum of the monthly production in the fish market were highest in October and November (183.6 and 183.5 ton, respectively). A total of 65 different marine species were recorded in Çanakkale Fish Market whereas only 25 different marine species were reported by Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Province Directorate of Çanakkale. Although the greatest amount in the Fish Market were gilt sardine, anchovy, and bluefish, the greatest fishing production in the Çanakkale region were reported as gilt sardine, tuna and bluefish. In contrast to the fishing production of Çanakkale region, tuna entered the Fish Market only in August, 2001. Çanakkale Fish Market records and the fishing production of Çanakkale region did not differ only in the amount but also in the species composition. Based on such conflicting statistics, decisions on fisheries management would be erroneous.Item Çanakkale Boğazı ve civarında yakalanan istavrit balığının bazı biyolojik özellikleri.(Ege Üniversitesi Su Ürünleri Fakültesi Dergisi, 2006) Güroy, Derya; Kahyaoğlu, Gülçin Ebru; Özen, Özcan; Tekinay, Ahmet AdemSome biological parameters of horse mackerel Trachurus trachurus (L., 1758) caught from the Dardanelles. Item Definition of textural deterioration in squid samples: three different tools supported by microbial, visual and physico-chemical analysis(Ege Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, 2021-09) Ceylan, Zafer; Çetinkaya, TurgayThe aim of the present study was to reveal the textural profile changes like hardness, cohesiveness, springiness, and adhesion supported by total mesophilic aerobic bacteria count (TMABc), pH, and some visual sensory characteristics in squid samples stored at 4 ºC. Three different Brookfield Texture Analyzer tools, named TA7, TA9, and TA18 were used to observe the textural changes more clearly. The difference of TMABc between the storage days reached from 4.32 log CFU/g to 6.32 log CFU/g. The hardness value of the squid samples, detected by TA18 and TA9 tools, increased while the hardness value obtained from TA7 was higher. The highest change in cohesiveness value in the squid samples was defined by the TA9 tool as ~63%. Once springiness values detected by TA9 were sharply decreased from 4.9 mm to 2.1 mm, those of TA7 and TA18 were slowly decreased. The most increase in adhesion value (0.08 mJ to 0.21 mJ) was obtained in the TA7 tool. Depending on the textural quality changes, the pH value was increased, and as visual and sensory, dark, or yellow spots were observed. The present study results revealed that especially the TA18 tool could be effectively used to determine the quality changes of the squid samplesItem Depolama Süresince Balıketi Kalitesinde Meydana Gelen Değişimlerin Hızlı ve Yenilikçi Metotlarla Belirlenmesi(Journal of the Institute of Science and Technology, 2021-09) Çetinkaya, Turgay; Altay, Filiz; Ceylan, ZaferFarklı üç balık türünün (yerli somon: YS, çipura: Ç, levrek: L) et kısımlarında yapılan analizler ile literatürde fazla yer almayan ve nadir çalışılan bazı fiziksel parametreler yardımıyla balıketlerinin kalite değişimleri 0. 2. ve 4. günlerde incelenmiştir. Item Destinasyon Çekicilik Unsuru Olarak Mutfak: Bulut Mutfaklar Konseptinin Swot Analizi İle İncelenmesi(Paradigma Akademi, 2021) Şahin, Nur NeşeItem Determining the Travel Safety Attitudes of Potential Turkish Tourists: An Intergenerational Analysis(St. Kliment Ohridski University Press, 2021) Buzlukçu, Cemali; Şahin, Nur NeşeItem DİJİTAL DİPLOMASİYE GENEL BİR BAKIŞ(TURAN-SAM: TURAN Stratejik Araştırmalar Merkezi, 2021-09) Ekici, Kübra DerenDiplomacy can be defined as the communication established by states for peaceful purposes through their official representatives. Four different stocking densities of crayfish were tested in BFT (20, 41.66, 62.5, and 83.33 individuals m-2). Water quality parameters were monitored to sustain desired levels for crayfish and biofloc management. The growth performance of narrow-clawed crayfish did not show any significant differences among the groups. However, the survival rate changed by the stocking density. Hemolymph indices represented by total hemocyte counts and relative abundance of hyalinocyte, semi-granulocyte, and granulocyte were not affected by different stocking densities. Overall hemolymph glucose and lactate levels of narrow-clawed crayfish reflected mild stress in response to BFT conditions. Hemolymph protein concentrations did not change by the stocking ratio in BFT. Hemolymph protein levels were in the normal range, indicating the healthy status of the individuals. The hepatopancreas histology was observed as a typical morphology for healthy crayfish in all stocking densities in BFT. Notwithstanding the relatively lower survival rate in higher stocking density of narrow-clawed crayfish, the results of the present research revealed that the adaptation of narrow-clawed crayfish to BFT conditions is promising for the crayfish culture.Item Evaluation of Diospyros kaki (persimmon), Prunus lauroceraus (cherry laurel) and Vaccinium arctostaphylos (blue berry) Fruits as a Natural Antioxidant Source(Journal of Anatolian Environmental and Animal Sciences, 2021-12-31) Gürdal, Aydın AytaçMost living things need oxygen to survive. However, the consumption of oxygen by cells causes the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). In this case, oxygen can have a toxic and mutating effect. It is reported that ROS, which create an imbalance between the antioxidant system of the organism and cause oxidative stress, cause chronic and acute diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer's and some immune problems and aging. Antioxidants are substances that can delay or prevent the damage caused by oxygen in living environments, although they exist in low concentrations. Epidemiological studies report that an antioxidant-rich diet is beneficial and can have a great impact on disease prevention. For this reason, a lot of research should be done on natural antioxidants. For this purpose, Diospyros kaki (persimmon), Prunus lauroceraus (cherry laurel), Vaccinium arctostaphylos (blue berry) fruits are dried at 60°C and then mixed with ethanol (40°C), hot water (75°C) and warm water (40°C). were subjected to the extraction process and extracts were obtained at the rates of 2.5% and 5%. The DPPH method was used to determine the antioxidant effect. According to the results obtained, the highest antioxidant activity was determined in the hot water extract of the blue berry fruit, and the lowest in the ethanol extract of the cherry laurel fruit. It was observed that increasing the extract concentration slightly increased the antioxidant activity.Item Fabrication and characterization of zein nanofibers integrated with gold nanospheres(LWT, 2022-02-01) Cetinkaya, Turgay; Wijaya, Wahyu; Altay, Filiz; Ceylan, ZaferThe synthesis, characterization, and coating effect of zein nanofibers integrated with gold nanospheres were studied. Zein solution including ethanol/liquid gold nanospheres (80/20 v/v) was prepared to produce complex nanofibers. Dielectric constant (ε′), dielectric loss factor (ε′′), and loss tangent (ε′′/ε′) values of feed solutions were evaluated at 300 and 3000 MHz, and electrical conductivity was measured (808.67 ± 2.082 μs/cm). SEM image showed a bead free structure of the gold-zein complex. Zeta potential and DLS measurements (translational diffusion coefficient, hydrodynamic radii, polydispersity index, major axis) were done by dispersing nanofibers in ethanol or water. The stability of nanofiber dispersed in ethanol was higher (+41.73 mV) compared to that of dispersed in water (+5.1 mV). Molecular characterization by FTIR confirmed the formation of the zein-gold complex through a nitrogen-gold coordination bond and electrostatic interactions. The gold-zein nanofibers coating in sea bream fillets reduced 17.8% of total mesophilic bacteria (TMAB) compared to the uncoated group (p < 0.05) after 8 days of observation. The highest changes in ε′ for uncoated (57.65%) and coated samples (14.84%) during storage showed the positive impact of nanofiber treatment. These results showed that zein nanofibers with gold nanospheres could be potentially used as antimicrobial layer for food products.
